Hello! I am Cleva Garner and I am thrilled to be the Gifted and Talented and Brain Booster at Lakeview Elementary School. One of my goals is to challenge, enrich, and meet the intellectual, social and emotional needs of ALL our incredible Lakeview Stars.  Students are encouraged and motivated to ask effective questions and "think outside the box" and/or apply higher-level thinking skills.

I teach gifted and talented to meet the needs of exceptionally high-ability students in third through fifth grade.  The students are pulled out of their regular classrooms for three hours and thirty-five minutes once a week. The Gifted and Talented students in grades three through five are involved in curriculum that includes in-depth studies requiring the use of varied technology,   research skills, Language  Arts studies from William and Mary and Math activities. The program includes critical thinking, creative thinking and goal setting activities.

            Creative thinkers are………

FLUENT - think of a lot of ideas

FLEXIBLE – change categories while thinking

ORIGINAL – think of unique and unusual ideas

ELABORATE – add details to further develop their ideas

Brain Boosters is designed to identify second grade students that are beginning to show creativity and intellectual abilities. The program focuses on creativity and independent thinking. The program is a team effort between the Gifted and Talented program and the regular classroom teacher. The students are involved in open-ended activities which helps students develop intellectual and academic strengths.  Suzanne H. McDaniel and Cindy Henderson from Spartanburg School District 7 developed the program.

Creativity is contagious…….pass it on!!!
