Word Study
Word Study is what was traditionally called “Spelling.” However, it looks very different than it once did. You may hear your child say he gets to pick his words each week. He is correct in that he picks his words from two places: words he missed on a pre-test of frequently used words and words that the class has brainstormed based around a certain skill or spelling chunk. Each student is paired with a study buddy who calls the words to each other. The goal of the changes made from the traditional subject of Spelling is that each child is taught at his level of spelling awareness.
